Contaminated Paradise

Ongoing

The Principality of Asturias is called by inhabitants of Spain as a Natural Paradise, having been the first Spanish territory to have a national park, the Picos de Europa National Park, one of the best world reserves of the Atlantic forest ecosystem.

However, it is also one of the areas of the country with the highest environmental pollution in terms of air quality, being a critical factor the industry settled mainly in the central area of the territory. Towns such as Gijón (the most populated city in the Principality) which is among the most polluted one in Europe or Trubia (belonging to the council of Oviedo) exceed very often the legal limits for benzene particles, a carcinogenic element in the air.

The project was born as a need to denounce the serious consequences of the industry in Asturias through different cases throughout the Asturian territory.
