Kashiwaya

Kashiwaya is one of the three great companies of Manju (traditional Japanese sweet) in the entire country. It is specially known for making the Usukawa Manju (薄皮饅頭), which has become a symbol to the company. The city of Koriyama became famous for being the place where the company was born, but also thanks to being a key passage to the North after the arrival of the train in 1882, granting it even more fame.

The Kashiwaya company belongs to the Honna family, with Zenbei Honna and his son So Honna, as the leading managers. One of the main features of the company is the way they take care of their customers. Everyone has free coffee or tea, and they create comfortable spaces in their different stores (which are spread all over Japan). That approach makes their stores an ideal spot to go and spend time with family or friends. In many of the stores, there is also the possibility of attending workshops to learn how to create traditional Manju.

The regulations that all the raw materials must pass are very demanding. The government even sent several machines specialized in analyzing radiation that, where after a few minutes, allows knowing they know the detailed results of the content. For this reason and despite the fact that the business fell by about 30 percent in sales, the company decided to get involved in several projects to attract tourism to the city of Koriyama and boost the economy of Fukushima, either through collaboration with other companies or in the collaboration or by organizing of events.

Although they worry about the future that the kids will face, they assume that they cannot stop living their life solely out of fear.
